The 2010 Muskoka Pride picnic will be held at Annie Williams Park in Bracebridge this year. The LGTA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and Ally) event will take place on Sunday July 25th from noon to 5PM. Last years picnic (pictured above) had over 30 participants. Organizers Matt Commandant and Jason Jones were very happy with last years turnout at Gull Lake Park in Gravenhurst“The event is as much about raising awareness as it is a celebration” said Jones, “there are still corners of intolerance and hate out there”.
At last years event, Commandant recounted the story of a local teen who was forced from his home when he came out as gay. “People need to know that there is support out there and that they are not alone. “Often parents need as much support as youth in these situations,” said Commandant.
The event will include information tables from PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) a national advocacy group as well as other support groups. Food will be provided and there will be games and activities. All are welcome to this event.
